Blog #3: Reflection of Unit 1

     In this unit 1 I learned about many terms that I have never hear before. For example, the word “Ethnocentrism”, I never heard that word on my little life, and I did not know about the meaning ether. But I know that it means that people always compare between their own culture with a new culture and always say that it is better than their own culture. I was so surprised when I heard that word because sometimes I was doing this kind of thinking without knowing what I was doing. It was a very bad action because you can not accept it but just do not say anything, be respectful of other culture. Also, I remember I learned about culture shock. I did not know that when some actions or routines that people which make me feel uncomfortable is culture shock. I thought that it was just something different that I could not accept, but now I know what I feel is culture shock. In this unit 1, I am learning by watching video and reading papers, while I was doing those, many questions and ideas came out of my head but I already forgot them because I have a short memory like a fish. But my aha moment was the self-image. The part about biological was very interesting because I never knew that gender, religion, physical appearance and many more characteristics. Then, the part of the iceberg was very interesting too because I never think so deeply about a culture even I am a bicultural person but I never put attention to defining each types of them. I thought that I already knew well about a culture but the truth is that I am not. I am trying to get into the idea of culture.
