Blog #1: Culture Shocks

Culture is everything around us and our second nature, but not everyone can accept the differences in different cultures at once. When I arrived in the U.S., the temperature scale was my first culture shock. In the U.S., they used to use Fahrenheit to show the temperature, while in China we show the temperature in Degrees Celsius. I felt very weird when someone told me that today was 66 degrees, it is so hot or so cold. I will look up instantly on my phone to check how much Celsius degree is 66 Fahrenheit degrees. Until now, I still get confused when someone talks to me about the temperature. My second Culture shock happened when it was my first time taking the train. I see many men's underwear almost showing up, even when they have dropped to the crotch, I always question myself if I missed out on some new fashion style. It is very difficult to dress their pants well? What do they feel about dressing like that? I guess hundreds of questions came out of my little brain. I know that judging someone is not a good action. For this reason, when I see something like that, I just ignore it. Probably I already get used to it. Finally, the very culture shock that impresses me is that Americans do not have social phobia. They can always make small talk with a stranger and never kill the conversation. To be honest, I am a very good conversation killer and have little social phobia. I always kill the conversation by accident or probably for no reason, I just quit down and do not know what to say. Sometimes I say something very interesting to me but to others, it is very boring. By the way, I'm very jealous when someone creates a very good conversation and the partner is very interested in it.
