Blog #8: Summary of Pop Culture Studies Website

The article I read is called "The Art of War: The 25th Anniversary of "Mulan"" by Michael Lyons from Cartoon Research is about the 25th anniversary of Mulan, a Disney animated film based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan. The female warrior who dresses up as a man to join the army. The article also talks about the history, production, and reception of the film, as well as its cultural impact and legacy. The movie was released on June 19, 1998. Even if it is an old movie, it is a story suitable for our times. Until now, it is widely regarded as one of the best-animated films of all time and a classic Disney masterpiece. "Mulan" is one of my favorite movies from Disney. I like it because it adapted the story very well without any discrimination or enthusiastic modifications. Also, all the songs are very enjoyable. Some songs I am still listening to them until now. I think these kinds of movies should be made. The movies now are not very interesting to me. They finished so suddenly without explaining anything that happened during the movie.

Blog #15: A song that moved me

 The song that moved me is called  Strawberries & Cigarettes. My first time listening to this song was in 2020 on a video, but at that time, I heard the version in Chinese. I thought the melody was good, and with the addition of video content, I felt very tempted. When I was watching the comments, I saw that this song's original name was Strawberries & Cigarettes rather than Strawberry Smoke. So my curiosity ignited, and I searched for the original song. I found that the melody, style, and lyrics of the original song and cover are completely different from each other. The original song expresses love very straightforwardly, while the cover is a feeling of secret love. Blog #18: Summary of a new text

The article " International Cinema Creates Spontaneous Connections " by Ellie Smith is  about International Cinema, which is a program at BYU that shows foreign films. It consists of creating a sense of community among the viewers. The writer characteristics an interview with Marc Yamada who is the head of International Cinema. He talks about his love for cinema and how it can help people connect with different cultures and experiences. The article also discusses how one of Yamada's favorite directors, Kore-eda Hirokazu. Who uses physicality and movement to create empathy and resonance in his films. The end of the article gives an example of how International Cinema brought a large crowd of students together to watch the movie Parasite, and how movies can provide shared memories and conversations that turn strangers into friends. I chose this article because I think it is very interesting to watch movies with people who have different cultures but with the same interests....
