Blog #22: Course Reflection

    This semester, I learned about what consisted of pop culture and what pop culture includes. I learned that pop culture is based on one big culture with many cultures, like a salad bowl with its ingredients. The U.S. is a very good example of pop culture because as more people from other countries immigrate to the United States, many other cultures merge into American culture or vice versa. 

    I think pop culture are things that are popular no matter how long it has been popular. Fads and trends are also a part of popular. In my opinion, fads can be trends, such as trends can be fads too. People's preferences change weirdly. I have noticed that some fashion styles that were popular a long time ago, have become popular again. For example, bell-bottom pants were one of the most popular clothing styles in the '60s to '80s and now, it has become popular again because it can better show off the leg lines. 

    In this course, I also learn about movies. For movies, I learned a lot about the terms of movies, and some new genres, and researched movie posters. I did a movie poster as the project for that unit. At the beginning, I thought that it would be easy to find the elements I needed, and the topic was a little hard to imagine. I can't find the picture in my head!!! But then I created a miracle in the middle of the night. To be honest, I like to do my homework at midnight because sometimes a lot of ideas come out of my head. Finally, my poster was finished, even though I didn't win the Oscar. Maybe I should try next time!!!

    To be frank, the unit of music is what I am most looking forward to. I hope that in that unit we can share many good songs and talk about the meaning of the lyrics. Because even if it is the same song and the same lyrics, everyone has different feelings and moods when they hear that. Although in the end, we didn't talk too much about what was called this, I still learned a little about the history of the blues, some new genres, and academic awards of music. By the way, I remember that we were going to talk a little bit about Taylor Swift in class, but we didn't haha. 

    However, I do enjoy this pop culture class, it is always interesting to learn about new things and enjoy the process. This semester is the last one for professor Gitte, she is always so passionate to teach about the class and put all the effort in this class. Best wishes to her......!
