Blog #10: Unit 2 Reflection

图片
Reflection of Unit 2 In the first part of unit 2, I learned a little about pop culture. Pop means “of people” and culture refers to the body of beliefs, behaviors, values, and thoughts that refer on us every day. Probably, it can also call the fabric of our live because it is made up by all the objects, people, events, and places. For objects, it is something about culture icons such as objects and people that are widely recognized as symbols like fads and trends. Fads are things that became popular quick but for a short time like Fidget Hand Spinner, it was very popular in 2017 because it can relieve stress and improve concentration, but now it is not popular anymore. Flip over, trends is something that was popular for a long time and still popular until now. One of the examples is Barbie, it has been a significant toy of most of girls childhood. In the past, no matter how poor my family was, I would always beg my parents to buy me a Barbie. The barbies movie was my favorite hobbies t...

Blog #8: Summary of Pop Culture Studies Website

The article I read is called "The Art of War: The 25th Anniversary of "Mulan"" b y  Michael Lyons from  Cartoo n Research is about the 25th anniversary of Mulan, a Disney animated film based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan. The female warrior who dresses up as a man to join the army. The article also talks about the history, production, and reception of the film, as well as its cultural impact and legacy. The movie was released on June 19, 1998. Even if it is an old movie, it is a story suitable for our times. Until now, it is widely regarded as one of the best-animated films of all time and a classic Disney masterpiece. "Mulan" is one of my favorite movies from Disney. I like it because it adapted the story very well without any discrimination or enthusiastic modifications. Also, all the songs are very enjoyable. Some songs I am still listening to them until now. I think these kinds of movies should be made. The movies now are not very interesting to m...

Blog #6: TED Talk summary

图片
The TED Talk I watched was " Pop culture is dead!"  by  Phil Miller from  TEDxWoking. At the beginning of the speech, the speaker gives the audience a welcome, and he started with an experiment by asking them to take out their phone and take an interesting picture. Next, share with the people sitting on the right and left sides of them. Then, he asks the people sitting in the first two lines to decide which picture is more interesting between them. Then, he explains how pop culture forms. Instead, he shows 2 pictures that give different ideas, and says "When a group of people comes out with a common idea, that is how popular culture forms". Actually, popular culture is everything around us. What Phil wants to say is that the popular culture that we all know before is probably dead, but popular has a long life because it changes.

My pop star presentation is about Jack Ma. I talk about him because I think the most time of my daily life is around his inventions. Also, I think he is a good rule model to follow.  https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1CmuVPEDm0AOeP6gkBxUDVOpgZzmkfvIz/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=107035760533281790480&rtpof=true&sd=true
